Five New Mews Cottages

Our developer client chose a small, overgrown brownfield site for five new cottages with large floor areas but without a large footprint. This project demanded a sensitive and savvy approach since the site is part of the conservation area of central Farnham, in a flood risk area, and with low scale cottages nearby.

We took an artful approach using three floors – one being at basement level – to minimise the visual impact but maximise living space. Each level is flooded with natural light – even the basement – through appropriately placed windows and a light well. The local planning authority and committee members praised the design as “innovative”.
