Contemporary Extension and Restoration of 1930s House

This house is a 1930s traditional house set in the sylvan area of South Farnham. The house was tired, drafty and uncomfortable. The client is an award-winning film director and together we worked on the way you negotiate around the garden and house in sequence, as a series of scenes. Cars are parked away from the house, and a path created through the garden leading to a new entrance to the house which flows into a generous, family kitchen. The new kitchen was created by removing internal walls and adding a contemporary metal and timber extension floating above the garden. The house was restored, the traditional casement windows replaced, and insulated to the latest building control standards. Cinematic views of the garden are framed as one walks around the house, leading one to final dramatic area of open glass.
